About Oh-Snap

The origins of Oh-Snap are not exactly shrouded in mystery. The first version of this page was designed in 2004 in crappy HTML with frames, hosted on Tripod.Co.UK. The odd thing about this is that I live in the United States, but at the time I believe the UK site was offering more bandwidth before the site was temporarily disabled. Because I didn’t want to send people to a page hosted on Tripod I found a redirect service that in turn made the “official” URL of this site ohsnap.tk. I don’t know what little island country tk is, but their free redirects helped me get started. I haven’t posted anything from the original Oh Snap site here because most of the page consisted of poor Photoshops, very brief articles, and poetry that I wrote for my high school creative writing class. The originals for the site are still contained on an old clunker of a PC, so the original Oh Snap is still preserved.

From there I realized that in order to have a better internet presence I should upgrade to an actual hosting service. After seeing the first GoDaddy Super Bowl commercial, which offered a pretty good deal on buying a domain name, I gave myself an early birthday present and bought Oh-Snap.US. The articles got longer and improved in quality, the Photoshops did as well. I scrapped the poetry because, while those poems did win a few awards on Poetry.Com (which I still have to this day) that was not the direction I wanted to take the site. As far as the HTML is concerned, I appropriated (see stole) code from a website owned by Aaron Hatch. One day I’ll kick him some residuals, but I don’t think you can cash a check for fifteen cents.

After a year or so of trying to mess around with Aaron’s code I found the WordPress software and decided it was time to upgrade. However the upgrade to PHP didn’t mean that the site got any better. I neglected the site for most of 2006 and 2007, with some gems popping up every now and again. Finally, in early 2008 I’ve decided to stop being a lazy and wasting my money by making a resolution to regularly update the site. As of right now, it is still early 2008 so we’ll see how that goes. If it goes well, it should be an experience.

Thanks for reading,
